IRIS – 4th Gathering

A grove filled with greenery. There is a path in the middle of the grove with two people walking on it side by side. The two people are both wearing black and their faces are facing the other direction.

This is the fourth gathering of the IRIS network members in 2018. Our first encounter together was hosted by Warehouse9 during International Performance Art Festival in Copenhagen in April. In July we had a little retreat in Rakvere, Estonia, where we continued our conversations and began to share practices. In September we met in Riga during Homonovus Festival to deepen our common reflections.

We want to share with you some things that have been important to us during these meetings. You are welcome to the 4th Gathering!

Juli Apponen (Berlin/Copenhagen), Kristīne Brīniņa (Cīrava/Riga), Emilia Kokko (Helsinki), Helle Siljeholm (Oslo), Satu Herrala and Hanna Nyman from Baltic Circle International Theatre Festival (Helsinki), Anne-Cécile Sibué from Black Box teater (Oslo), Gundega Laivina from International Festival of Contemporary Theatre Homo Novus (Riga), Jørgen Callesen and Emma Møller from Warehouse9 (Copenhagen)

IRIS is a Nordic-Baltic Network consisting of four art organisations and four artists. It aims to strengthen complementarities between artists, festivals, institutions and audiences. The network goes through a series of meetings throughout 2018 to get to know each other and the different contexts in which they work in order to propose a methodology on how organisations and artists can work together horizontally and have meaningful encounters with the audience.

The gathering begins with a performance by Emilia Kokko, a queer feminist, performance artist and actor, and Markus Lindén who is a performance artist, sound designer and musician.

“For me a world that has room for fragile structures is a lighter, more spacious and softer place.” – Emilia Kokko
