BALTIC CIRCLE
Baltic Circle is an International Contemporary Theatre Festival which is organized every November in Suvilahti and in different performance specific venues in Helsinki. The next festival takes place 7-11 November 2012.
MISSION
Baltic Circle functions at the core of the European contemporary theatre and performing arts as well as bridges the artistic communities of Baltic and Nordic countries. Festival functions as a ground for developing new trends in field of theatre and contemporary art. Baltic Circle supports artists’ mobility and internationalization of performing art. Baltic Circle acts as pioneer in the field of theatre, it takes an active role in cultural exchange and has an affect on the Finnish culture environment in the field of performing arts.
CORE ACTIVITIES
Co-operation: Baltic Circle collaborates with the focal European and local theatre festivals and production centers.
Development: The festival organizes training programs, seminars, workshops, discussions, and actively participates in public debate on contemporary art. The main focus is to develop a dialogue between artists and audiences.
New Production Models: Baltic Circle commissions and co-produces new work, locally and internationally. Baltic Circle is pioneering on a residency program for the contemporary theatre and the performing arts in Finland with HIAP – Helsinki International Artist-in-residence Programme.
Cultural Exchange: Baltic Circle brings contemporary international performances to Finland and presents the new talents of Finnish contemporary theatre.
Discourse: Baltic Circle is a community in which artists and the audiences can engage in discussion, raise questions and find new perspectives on the arts and the surrounding world.
VISION
Baltic Circle is a meeting point for artists and audiences as well as an international performing arts laboratory. It is a community which offers artists space to break boundaries and daringly tackle new phenomena. Baltic Circle is an initiator and a presenter of outcomes The festival is a work of art itself which takes a stance and challenges its participants into dialogue.
