FESTIVAL LAB, a training program for young European festival directors that combines theory and practice, was initiated by eight festivals in eight countries. In addition to SPIELART, the participating festivals are Baltic Circle (Finland); Exodos (Slovenia); Homo Novus (Latvia); KRT (Krakowskie Remiscenje Teatralne, Poland); LIFT (Great Britain); Meteor (Norway); and POT (Estonia).
The goal of FESTIVAL LAB is, first, to supply the next generation of festival organizers with the necessary theoretical and practical equipment, and second, to develop new program concepts for European audiences in a type of laboratory situation.
The 20 participants in FESTIVAL LAB were selected by all eight festivals based on the participants’ written applications in November 2010. During the year 2011 they will absolve a program of various academies and workshops. In addition, five participants will be offered an artist-in-residence position at one of the participating festivals, where they can realize their own project.
